4-Aug2011 - TamilNadu, The tiger population is estimated to be between 153 to 173 in TamilNadu.  At Mudumalai the tiger density is high 11.06 per 100 sq.km (97-113 tigers). Camera traps reveal tiger density of 7.65 per 100sq.km in Moyar and Segur. Parambikulam-Eravikulam-Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctury Landscape has 32-36 tigers. Kalakad Mundanthurai-Periyar  has 36-40 tigers.

             Western Ghats comprising three states (TN,KA & KL) has 402 to 534 tigers. The tiger habitat has decreased by about 5000 sq. km.

             The shrink in the co-predator and prey habitat is a serious concern and poses a big problem for conservation.
